Shift 8 / Fairphone 5 network compatability

as a person waiting on a german shiftphone "shift 8" im wondering about network compatibility/network connectivity.  this phone is based on the qmc6490 SoC that also underpins the fairphone 5(which occupies the same market and therefore network signal requirements). based on the fairphone 5's  network frequencies the 4g & 5g band overlaps to att are pretty good.

i put in a preorder about a year ago because i needed a long term viable global cell. to operate here and abroad. (obv its factory unlocked). given my profession sustainability as a feature is also an important factor.  now that delivery is getting closer i have concerns about the network being finicky about the unit like what happened years ago with my nokia hmd 6.2 all of a sudden after years of use on the network.

You can always check the AT&T whitelist for phones that have been certified to work on AT&T's network. It's up to the mfr to certify their phones and then submit that certification to AT&T.

@latency2

I found no information on the LTE and 5g bands on the phone.  Without that info we can't even speculate it will work.

It's not even certified yet.  Release expected in August.

So it's not likely it's been tested by at&t.

Unless a previous incarnation form this manufacturer worked, despite not making the list, I'd say prepare for disappointment

Might work on t mobile

(Fair Phone 5, which is no indication it worked on at&t or is the same as shift 8

  • 4G B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/20/28/32/38/40/41/42/48/66/71
  • 5G n1/2/3/5/7/8/20/28/38/41/48/66/71/77/78 )

Neither phone listed has ran thru the FCC which means they A either have not got them certified yet or B they are not plaining to which means support in the USA will be no existent.  The fairphone 4 was certified tho and is the only one I could find

yea, shift gmbh pretty well wont give any support info.  previously having directly asked about why they dont even have an fcc garantee ID so they can get certified.  which i found odd as they atleast at the time(last june) sold the phone/preorder as a global cell variant  using both mmwav and sub6 5g.and 4g.   they say its in the plan to be fcc certified but cant give timelines.  since it goes to production soon its concerning as fcc cert takes 12 wks minimum.   in any event im wary of it if only because delivery has been pushed back about an entire year so far.

This is the risk you take when you sign up for a phone that does not yet exist. I would recommend you make other plans. Previous devices have not been certified for operation on AT&T or even on any other US service provider.

its was a known risk, and its a small to negligible one as they have a cancel policy that allows return up to 60 days from/after delivery.  people seem to be able to use phones like the librem 5(which is too old for consideration) on the att network provided they have already active sim with service because the L5 cant be activated on the network[probly because of the modem] but has been shown to be able to connect and use the network with existing sims in the wild.  the theme of European phones is such that i have to be there for extended periods. back and forth,  and a dual sim capable unit is better for my needs.  and also i like the EU privacy enforcement/data protection better.

and why is att help tagging turkeyscholarships.. or is that just emblematic of the nature and level of help to expect. not even knowing which thread theyre in. copy paste
