Need Help: Promised $800 Trade-in Credit Only Received $350 - Seeking Advice!

Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out to this community in hopes of finding guidance and support for a situation that has left me feeling quite frustrated and helpless. As an international student who recently moved to the USA, I'm facing a challenging issue with AT&T that has significantly impacted my experience and perception of customer service here.

Here's a breakdown of what happened:

  • When & Where: In the first week of January, I traded in my Samsung S20 for an iPhone 15 Pro Max 256 GB at the AT&T store located at 7811 Main St Suite A, Houston, TX 77030.
  • The Promise: The sales rep, Jamal, assured me that I would receive an $800 trade-in credit for my Samsung S20 towards the purchase of the new iPhone.
  • The Issue: After completing the trade-in, I discovered that only $350 was credited to my account, far less than the $800 promised.
  • Attempts to Resolve: I've been in touch with Jamal (who no longer works there), the new branch manager, Melissa (who was unhelpful and has also left), and even escalated the issue to the district manager without any resolution.

It's been nearly three months of going back and forth, with no one taking my concerns seriously. The lack of resolution and poor customer service has been incredibly disheartening, especially as I navigate this as an international student unfamiliar with these processes in the USA.

Seeking Your Advice:

  • Has anyone here faced a similar situation with AT&T or another provider? How was it resolved?
  • Are there specific channels or contacts at AT&T that you found helpful in resolving such issues?
  • Any advice on escalating this further, perhaps to consumer protection agencies, or ways to get more direct attention from AT&T corporate?

I'm reaching out to this forum in hope of guidance, advice, or any assistance you can offer. This situation has been not only a financial burden but also a significant stressor as I adjust to life in a new country. I appreciate any help or insights this community can provide.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my issue.

File a BBB complaint to get it escalated to upper management.

if you did a trade-in at a physical store you would’ve gotten a paper receipt. That paper receipt shows whether or not your phone was qualified for $800 in Bill credits. Do you have that receipt?
