I just don’t understand why you will not offer the ability to purchase a phone up front, at a reasonable price, for a customer who has been with AT&T for 22 years. Don’t feel like there is much loyalty.

We value you as a loyal customer, @jrcecil93

There is an option to purchase a device from us at retail price. You can either check out our selection of phones online or in-store. At checkout, you will select the 'full retail' pricing option to pay the upfront cost.

Thanks for reaching out to our Community Forums! Please let us know if you require additional help.

Thank you for offering full retail price to me, a customer of 22 years.  I will search and see if other carriers can offer such an amazing deal. Full retail price, wow, thank you!

@jrcecil93, I sympathize with you.  I called "Customer Loyalty" (also being a customer of 22+ years) and explained some things that were going on with mischarges on one of our phone lines (one of these 36 month deals), but I've since learned with AT&T that loyalty means NOTHING to AT&T, and each department passes the buck to the next.  Sometimes you get a nice agent on the phone, but they have no autonomy to make decisions, offer credits, or actually work with a customer.  We have 5 lines and crappy Internet with AT&T, so we spend quite a bit of money with the company, but they are so fragmented and siloed (Web orders separate from store orders separate from internet separate from porting separate from etc., etc., etc.,) that it's very difficult to get anyone who actually has any authority.  Terribly disappointing.  Good luck with your phone search.

Phone carriers have gone away from "upgrades" (discount price/free phone with contract). So yes, other carriers do offer customers this "amazing deal".

If you are seriously considering switching over this, call AT&T and at the voice system say "cancel" to get to that department to discuss the situation. Not a guarantee you will get a better offer, but they can verify your options so you can make your final decision.

I switched to A T and T from Consumer Cellular. I expected better customer service. Not so! After only 8 months; my Samsung new phone suddenly stopped working properly. I can't hear any phone conversations unless I put it on speaker. All A T and T did was offer to refund the $89 I spent on it and let me buy a new one for $155. I would have to shell out another $66! Forget it. I will use my phone on speaker another three months and go back to Consumer Cellular! Mary Achee

Do not switch providers to AT&T!!! Lies, empty promises, no customer support!!! I switched in Aug 2022 to ATT using the In Home Experts. Our rep, Brant Eiserer, promised reduced monthly billing (barely any), gift cards for switching and most importantly, to pay off our old T-Mobile phones. After months of trying to contact Brant through every means possible, we are left with a bill from T-Mobile for $1.048.13. Where is their conscious???? I have gone into the stores looking for help, called 800 numbers, emailed extensively with no response. RUN from the idea of switching to AT&T!!!
