Cheated out of Veterans Discount

I just got off the phone with customer service and was treated very well by a agent named Chris. He told me that I was eligible for a military discount and this is the first time since I’ve been with AT&T that I’ve heard about this. I’ve been overpaying for years. I got it set up going forward but I think I should get some sort of credit for not being able to have this credit in my years at AT&T. They gave me a $25 credit which is pretty pitiful before our resort to sending a letter to the CEO, which I’m sure will just get tossed in the trash , I wanted to try this. Could I get some help with this?

AT&T's advertised the military discount fairly heavily for the past several years, so it's surprising you missed it. That doesn't mean you're owned anything for the period before you added it.

It concerns me that you were told you added it via phone call. Did you provide documentation as well?

If you really want to pursue getting extra money, file a BBB complaint. That will get you escalated to someone who with the authority to give a larger credit if they choose to.

This forum is not customer support. No one here can help. Even if ATTHelp responds, they don’t have the authority to provide credit for a discount that could have been applied but wasn’t. Sorry but that’s not being cheated in my opinion. It’s not ATT’s fault you never applied the discount. How did you not know ATT had a military/veteran discount?

Thank you for your service and while it is unfortunate that you were not advised about the discount earlier, all discounts are posted online.  Acquiring the discount requires proof of eligibility and is 25% on eligible plans.  Information is HERE

You might get 3 months of discounts (which would be generous), but AT&T is not obligated to give you anything retroactive.

I didn’t enroll on the phone, the agent sent me a text with a link. It never asked for any documentation but I entered some information and it said I qualified. It may be because I served so long ago. I was discharged in 1974.

Did the CS agent imply that you would continue to get the discount?  Don't be surprised if you don't since there is criteria that must be met.  As per the website:

  • Provide proof of eligibility
    • Valid Military ID
    • Current paystub
    • Department of Defense Form DD214 indicating an honorable discharge
    • Valid retired Military ID
    • Current AMVETS membership card (a veteran designated driver’s license
    • Veteran Health Insurance card are also acceptable).
  • Be the primary wireless account holder
  • Have an eligible AT&T Unlimited Premium plan, see www.att.com/unlimited.
