Military Suspension - Changing Main Account Cellular Plans
Hello,
I'm having a really bad experience with AT&T trying to figure out my situation.
I have an existing account with 6 lines. One of the lines is in a Military Suspension status.
I wish to change the wireless plan for my account, but I can not seem to find anyone that assure me that the suspended number will be safe if I change the cellular account.
One rep told me that I could change the plan on the active lines, but then I would have to maintain a separate account for the military suspended number, and they told me it would come with fees about $80 a month.
I've searched high and low and can't find any particular department to contact. When I call into AT&T I get the same customer service people, and because I am a retiree, I'm told that I have no options to escalate. I asked to speak with a Manager, and after 20 minutes on hold, they were supposed to call me back... well, as you might guess, that didn't happen.
Then, when I asked to speak to "customer loyalty" department I was told that I can only speak to retiree department...
So, in other words, there is no one to talk to, I have no options to escalate my issue, and I'm told that because I used to work for AT&T, I don't have any options to talk to the loyalty department.
Nice, huh?
This doesn't need to be this difficult, but I just can't seem to break through the barrier to actually talk to someone that is knowledgeable of the program.
Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

If someone is deployed, their number should be canceled using the military cancelation: Cancel or Reactivate AT&T Service for U.S. Military - AT&T Wireless Customer Support (att.com)
If that's been done, it's no longer on the account and any changes made to your account will not affect it.

First off THANK YOU. I believe I am beginning to understand. Below is what I think I've learned from you. Please confirm or correct my understanding:
The Military Cancellation, cancels the service on the number BUT provides up to (x) number of months where AT&T will "hold" the phone number for me and it gives me the "first right of refusal" to (re)-activate that number. After the (x) number of months, if I do not activate that number, it goes back into the pool of available phone numbers that AT&T can assign to any other customer's request for new lines.
So, it seems that as long as I keep my ACCOUNT active, I can change plans on my account, and those changes will have NO impact on the Military Canceled / held number, as that number is not active and is not part of any cellular plan. And when I re-activate that number, it will flow back into whatever cellular plan I have active on my account at the time of re-activation.
Does this sound about right?

PS: Sorry for being so detailed about this. My daughter is deployed, and if I loose her number while she is gone, she will not be happy with dear old dad. ;)

That's correct! Technically, you wouldn't even have to stay with AT&T as long as you kept the account number handy so she could reactivate her line.
