Apple Watch Setup Debacle

I got in contact with customer support to set up my Apple Watch on cellular. However, the line of questioning and requirements became excessive and I just want to know if I’m overthinking or right to be sketched out. She asked me to create a separate iCloud account with the age of a minor (I’m guessing to refrain from over using my iCloud account linked to my phone). But why the age of a minor? Or one I am not using on any other account if it will be linked to my account? Second, she asked me to download an app so she could remote mirror into my phone and ensure I was following the steps correctly. This is my second Apple Watch with AT&T and never did I have them request either of the above. It seemed odd and I just want to make sure I’m not crazy. Or tell me if I am.

Let's use the term uninformed...

Are you trying to set up this Apple watch for someone else to use as a standalone device? Or are you trying to set it up for yourself as a companion device to your existing phone?

If you're just trying to set it up as a companion device to your phone then the information you have received is incorrect. They're trying to guide you to family setup, which is for a standalone device not a companion device.

If you are trying to set up the watch as a companion device to your iPhone for yourself:

If you are trying to do family setup ⤵️

The child does need their own Apple ID and iCloud account.

This is an Apple feature not an AT&T feature. You should refer to apples instructions

  Instructions - Family set up

If you are *not* trying to set up for a child, and just trying to sync with your phone, my best guess is whoever you are speaking to just learned how to do family setup 🤦🏼‍♀️.  And they are not listening to you

I just upgraded my watch from a 4 series to a 9. So a standalone? Last time I did an activation, it wasn’t that difficult. But I will be calling today to see if I can get some assistance. Thank you!

Ummm.  You don't sound sure...

Who is using it?  You...someone else?

As a phone?  Or companion to your phone?   Set up with numbersync?

Yes?  No?

Not sure?

How has the previous watch worked?  Did it ring for call and text just like your phone, even if phone was not near?

Or was it acting on its own?
