Can I switch to my own plan if my family has att up next?

Hi , I want to switch to my own phone plan with my boyfriend and upgrade my phone due to problems with it . When i talked to someone at my local ATT she said I could he would just have to transfer the billing to me but then when I ask my father he said I will have to send him the phone and start over?

The phone belongs to your dad or whoever the account owner is. If he's paying for it it very very much belongs to him..

You can ask your dad to transfer your phone number to you. A transfer of billing responsibility means you also have to pass a credit check to open your own account.

"Next up" is an early upgrade option that you have to have been paying for with a 5 or $6 fee for a minimum of 18 months and have paid off 50% of your current phone. This allows you to upgrade and return your current phone to AT&T. The phone must be in excellent and working condition. You are indicating the phone is not in good condition, not working correctly. This would require you pay off the phone 100%. At that point you may be able to use it as a trade in, but it's likely you will not get full value if the phone is defective.
