AT&T first responder to First Net deceiving scam.

I was only with a family plan with AT&T. I went in a couple months ago to get a new phone and they said being a first responder I would save money joining First Net. I was talked into it and she said she has to put in a tablet and a watch but they will be off the bill in up to 3 months. I said I don’t want anything but a phone. She said don’t worry it may look weird on your bill but only for a bit. I said I do not want it to be complicated. She said I might as well take the Apple Watch as it is free with the promotion. I said no. She said you might as well, it’s free. At that point I said okay if it’s free. The watch is still in the box as I never even wanted it. Now that My bill is readable I was deceived into paying for a line for the watch. The watch was free however the line is $25 a month and there is no way out unless I pay off the watch. They won’t even just take it back. I am so mad that I was deceived like this and it makes me want to cancel everything I can as soon as I can. I just want the watch gone and the line for it gone. I’ve gone back to the store and they said there is nothing they can do. How can you make a line for First Responders and then scam them like this? Now I supposedly have to pay around $400 for a watch I never even wanted. I will be actively telling fellow firefighters and departments about this here in SW Florida if nothing is done about this.

Please people learn to use the word "No" and mean it. 😩

It is a scam and it is pretty scummy to sign someone up for additional devices which require paid service. It certainly should not be done to First Responders.

The answer when you are offered something you don't want or need is, "NO".   And if they tell you it's free look them dead in the face and say, " no it's not, because I'm going to be charged for service, that's not free" .  Then ask to speak with their manager, because lying to a customer is a fireable offense.

As for this issue, file a Better Business Bureau complaint. The complaint is forwarded to AT&T upper management and someone will call you.

The exact same thing happened to me in Illinois! I changed plans in July 2022. At&t gave me the same spiel when I said NO I didn't want the watch or the tablet plan.  They told me it wouldn't cost anything for those. I ended up paying more than I would have just switching to a new unlimited plan.  I'm still trying to get my bill straightened out with them and when I went into the Wheaton store last week, I heard 2 of the employees mumble a derogatory word in spanish, aimed at me!  I told the manager that I understood what they said...he didn't care! I have been with At&t for 20+ years, I should have just switched to Verizon instead. Now I'm tied to this stupid watch for 36 months.

@PAC63

Sure the devices may have been free. But you had to pay for service on them and you're under a 2 year contract, or installments with bill credits.

There is no such thing as free. Not when it comes from a business. A business is in business to make money and show a profit. When someone tries to talk you into something claiming it's free, use that wonderful two letter word - NO

Unfortunately I didn't know that the watch gets it's own number assigned.

j just wanted to upgrade my phone and they made me buy an iPad and two watches saying it’s a good deal and you get a free watch . I ended up paying thousands of dollars for them to cancel those lines . On top of it I have to pay activation fee on three devices and monthly charges for individual phone lines and 100 dollars insurance even though I told manager specifically don’t put insurance on them . I am so mad right now at AT&T being a customer for over 20 years . When I explain the whole thing calling whole day they say they can’t do anything . They need to stop scamming people like this . Really sad !!

How did they “make” you buy an iPad and two watches?  What would have been the negative consequences if you just said “no”?
