COMPLAIN about Unlocked Phone

I had a complain to make. I have been with ATT for longer than ten years. I will travel to China this year on October to Dec for 2 months and I requested my phone to be unlocked. However, I submitted online request and it got deny because the contact is not ended within 2 years period. so I called the tech support regard my situation.

you have to understand even if I got a international data and phone plan with ATT. in china, there are some areas the ATT network is unreachable. I just got this iphone 6 plus for 6 months. but you have to understand buying another phone is costly. and I had already paid part of my phone around 400 something dollars. I just want my phone to be unlocked so I can use it during the trip for emergency purpose only two months and I can even show you a airticket for evidence. I am paying 200 dollars every month. and ATT told me I cannot unlock my device after I had been with contact with you company for long than 10 years. you know that REALLY want me to end my contact NOW totally.

You know as part of my manner I will not yell at people, it just adds sin at my side. but ATT should consider my situation after those 10 years of loyal customer and I am actually angry.

There are companys like "The Unlocker" that will give you an unlock codse for about $10.00 USD.

Iv'e heard that in your exact situation your service provider is supposed to give you the code free of charge. I would complain to both the BBB and FCC but first research the situation on google just to be sure your not going to be disapointed.

You can complain to the BBB and FCC but AT&T has rules about unlocking and the rules were approved by the FCC.

Your phone needs to be out of contract to be unlocked. That is AT&T's rule.

If your phone is on the NEXT plan, you can pay off the NEXT plan and your phone will be unlockable since the contract is complete.

Your only other option is to buy an inexpensive unlocked phone that you can use while out of the country.

If you knew that you were going to be out of the country, you could have purchased an unlocked version in the beginning from Apple.

.....uh, there is NOWHERE in China that the ATT network is reachable.   By paying for international service you reduce the cost of roaming on foreign networks.

ATT has the right to keep your phone locked to the network until your 2 year contract is complete.   With the exception of Verizon, all other networks also lock their phones to the network until the contracts are compete.

you cant complain about something that is cut and dry on the website.  And phones have been locked to carriers for years.

Thank you for viewing my post, I did read though the unlock device page before I placed a post here, I also knew I should wait for the whole contact ended but there should be an exception regard international travel. I did request unlock device before the contact ended 2 years ago and they recongize me as an loyal customers and helped me unlocked my phone for traveling. however, the rule changed nowaday and I was not happy about the change. ATT used be more friendly when dealing with customers for unlocking. I signed a 2 years contact and I kept my promise.

Now, customers sevice became cold for loyal customers. They only recongized money, rule and policy and not for people anymore. Those thing made the service not adjust based on customers' needs but it was just for money and I did know this is business world. But I did feel sad about this world turning in such an cold relationship between people.

Futhermore, I did not argue about plain and dry is written on the webspage regarding ATT rule, but you have to understand when you have a emergancy travel plan and you are still paying the monthly payment for ATT service when we are out of the country too. I only ask a favor hoping to unlock the phone for my parents who are elder than 60 years old and help them to save money. maybe you can tell me a lot of rule and policy about this unlocking device, but somehow when you deal with people.  ATT should have an better solution when coming to customers's request and we are honest  people who did not drop and go to another company.

What does unlocking your phone for travel in October have to do with saving your parents money?  Are you giving the phone to them?

Call it a lot of rotten Apples, spoiling it for every one.  To many people would unlock phones and run out on the bill.

ATT does have an answer.  Customers can buy a phone at full price or with Next.  They can pay off Next at any time in order to unlock a phone for travel.

Since 2 year contracts are going away, it will be less of a problem next time you buy a phone.

You can buy an AT&T International roaming package then use your AT&T locked phone while traveling.  If you fear that your phone will not be usable in some areas, while you are traveling, you can pick up a cheap phone for $50 or less, and use that with a foreign SIM card.

You seem to want AT&T to sell you a phone at a reduced cost, and then have them unlock the phone so you are no longer locked to their service so they can recover the cost of the phone that they subsidize for you.  That is called wanting to cheat AT&T out of the money they deserve from youby tryign to make them unlock your phone so you don't have to use their service.

Here's an idea for you.  Take the phone you have 7 months ago, and have it unlocked.  Since you claim you've only had your current phone for 6 months, take your previous one, which is no longer under contract, and have it unlocked and use it while traveling.  THis is exacly what I have done.  I have my iPhone 6 which is my current phone, and I still have my iPhone 5, but it is now unlocked and I can use it if I travel.  Yeah, it's not the newest phone, but it's still unlocked.

Excellent idea.  In my case, I have an old Verizon GS3.  But I also bought my phones at full retail and unlocked 2 of them already.
