Stolen phone

Att updates say my phone was delivered today. But it's not here.  I have reported to the police and to ATT.  What can I expect to happen and in what timeframe?

This is a customer populated forum, you may not get your answer here, hoping my comment will boost this to someone who has also gone through this situation.

There's a good chance that FedEx marked it as delivered when it's not. Which means they'll deliver it tomorrow or you'll find it in a shrub or something. In any case once AT&T marks it is lost or stolen, do not even try to use it. Return it to AT&T and reorder. Once the phone is claimed as stolen by AT&T they blacklist it with their insurance company and you will never be able to use it

Thanks guys.  It was definitely stolen.  They obv knew a phone was getting delivered.  I wonder if it was through ATT or through FedEx.

All AT&T has to do is insist they be signed for or delivered securely. The fact that FedEx doesn't do so, doesn't require it or offer it is idiotic

Att won’t even let me tell Fedex to mark it signature required or hold for up! And Fedex can’t do it unless Att tells them to?! Nuts!

AT&T is the shipper and that’s who FedEx has the contact with.  It’s up to the shipper to specify the delivery options, including whether or not to require a signature (which likely costs extra).  As far as FedEx is concerned, the recipient has no power to change the delivery options.  The change has to come from AT&T, and AT&T isn’t letting FedEx change the options because of potential fraud (thieves redirecting packages in transit to sonewhere they can get to the package first).  The issue for not requiring signature for delivery is entirely with AT&T.  Don’t blame FedEx for this one.

Back to the OP’s problem, are you saying that the package actually delivered to the correct address and someone stole it off the doorstep before you got home?  If so, FedEx did their job.  They delivered the package to the correct destination.  What happened after they dropped it off on the porch is not their responsibility.  AT&T should have chosen the signature required option.  If FedEx delivered it to the wrong address, or it was stolen while in their possession (before delivery) then it’s FedEx’s fault.

The same happened to me this week. Signed up at BJs.  THREE new iPhones stolen 1 1/2 minutes after delivery (I have time stamped video). It’s definitely an inside job, but not sure if it’s the guys at BJs or the FedEx guy. The police are investigating, as it’s grand larceny, and there’s been other cases. The guy at the AT&T store said it happens often with the official retail sellers at target and BJs.
AT&T blacklisted the phones and cancelled my contract.  I’m waiting for refund and don’t think I’ll sign up again, even thought it’s cheaper than Verizon. And IF I do, it will be at a AT&T location.

Besides costs, I never had an issue w Verizon in 15 years. I was nearly in tears.

*when I talked to AT&T agent, I asked why wouldn’t they require signature on $2700 worth of phones. “We don’t do that”.
