1Gig Switch connected to BGW320 will only run in 100M mode

I got setup with fiber today with a wired Netgear 1Gig Switch connected to the BGW320 but based on it's status lights and speed tests, it will only run in 100M mode, meaning I'm only getting around 90Mbps speeds.

I went into gateway's home network | configure screen and set port 2 from auto to 1G full duplex, the lights go out on the switch's port, they don't come back on and  and I can not get internet at all. However, if I switch it back to auto, 100M, or 10M it works fine.

I've tried restarting the gateway, unplugging the switch, disconnecting the network cable from the gateway to the switch, tried a different switch, and changing the settings back and fourth.

So at this point if I cannot get it work, I am going to have to cancel my ATT service.

What service did you have before you got Fiber activated today?

First place to check would be the cable to your switch and then the individual port cables on your switch to any Ethernet devices? Do you know if the Ethernet cables are Cat 5e or a higher standard? Next are you using existing Ethernet cables in your walls or Ethernet pre-terminated cables?

Hi Dave006,

Quick update: After reading your post, I wondered if it wasn't the cable connected to the switch from the gateway, so I had another spare CAT6 cable (Belkin) switched out the Bestbuy CAT 6 cable and switch went into 1G mode. *Slaps forehead*

We have/had cable internet. I was running with our own modem, ASUS AX86U Pro router, and the same switch. No problems with that.

All cables are newer CAT6 patch cables, nothing terminated in the walls. If I have my computer directly connected to the Gateway, then things are fine. I was unplugging/plugging in the cables

Hi Abd360360,

It was the one cable connected from the gateway to the switch that was the issue. Switched it out and problem was solved. Thanks!
