ATT Fiber and U-Verse TV keeps dying out, HELP!

I had the ATT technician come by today because the U-Verse Tv and Fiber internet keeps dying and coming back. He checked all the wires and the equipment, everything is currently fine, then he decided to switch the equipment with newer ones. Still, everything is fine, but now a couple hours later. Both internet and tv just died out again for like three mins and then everything comes back working fine again. Does anyone know what is going on? It's been happening for the past month since we got the service and on top of that, we haven't even reach gigabit speeds!

I posted about my speeds always under 400, that's never changed, but in the past week my internet has been doing the same thing, going out, coming back in.  I've had to restart modem and router to get everything booted back up.  The tech that did my install did a speed test the first day and it was like 640, and he said that was normal, I talked to support and they are telling me 800 is average.  So, the tech that did my install knew there were issues, and he never answers his phone or calls me back, they are finally sending someone to look at the issues that you have, I'm too now concerned they are not going to find anything, blow me off, and I'm stuck in a year contract with these people dealing with horrible speeds.

I’m in the same boat, although its not going in and out anymore due to replacing the router. However, im still not reaching gigabit speeds. Very annoyed right now.

Make sure you log into the Gateway (fiber modem+wifi router), and on the diagnostic page, run a speed test from there. The numbers should be pretty high, and symmetric with Giga-Power 1Gbps service.

If you run a speed test on a computer plugged into the back of the Gateway, your speeds will be lower and possibly much lower depending on what is happening on the other ports if in use (do you have a Set Top Box connected) or other traffic on the WiFi.

Finally, if you run a speedtest on a computer or phone connected via WiFi, then your speed will "depend". Are you connecting to the 5GHz radio? Are you connecting to the 2.4GHz radio? Do you have other neighbors with the service, and are your WiFi channels overlapping / interfering?

FWIW: If you have an android smartphone, download from the playstore: WiFi Analyzer by Farproc. Go to the Signal Strength [dBm] vs. Channel Number. The default display will be for 2.4Ghz radios. Press the screen in the area upper-left, just to the left of the real-time plot, and just underneath the word WiFi. This will help you visualize possibly interference from other routers in your immediate area. There are articles on the web on how to optimize your WiFi router settings.

Good Luck.
