BGW320-505 with IP Passthrough to my Asus AC1750 (RT-AC66U B1) Showing Slow Connection

I have my BGW320-505 setup in IP Passthrough with all Firewall rules disabled, and all wifi antena's turned off as well.
I'm using the port 1/5GB with a Cat6 cable to my Asus RT-AC66U B1 set in Router mode currently with QoS disabled, and IPv6 disabled, and a few other features currently turned off.

My biggest issue is that whenever I do a speed test from the Asus router, Speed Test website, all of the results come back with an average of 260 Mbps vs the 900+ that I am paying for.

Are their any other setting or configurations that I need to be aware of to make sure that I'm getting the speeds we should expect?

For your iPhone unless it is the only device on 5 GHz then that is going to be the average. A connection speed of 866 Mbps and actual speeds are going to be right at a max of 440 Mbps.

You might want to setup a separate SSID for 5 GHz and only connect your iPhone 12 Pro only to get the max speeds possible from your Asus.

If you try your iPhone 12 Pro directly to your BGW320 with your Asus Wi-Fi turned off you should be able to get about ~720 Mbps average or higher on your iPhone 12 Pro.

There is a chance you might be right about my laptop. We have a corporate ESET Endpoint Security that may be interfering, but it shouldn't be cutting the speed in half like that.

Oh boy that's what is slowing your downloads. It is just like using your SonicWall TZ350 x 2 instances. Your "software' endpoint security is what is cutting your download speeds in half unless you have a high end i9 Multi-core gaming laptop with a good quality Ethernet adapter and even with this the endpoint software is the gating factor in speed.

The average corporate laptop is not going to have the processing speed to overcome the impact of "software" based inbound security scanning.

You are not going to see anything above the ~500 Mbps directly on the BGW320 or about ~400 Mbps on your Asus in a router behind router configuration for downloads with your software EST endpoint security.

The proof is that your upload speeds are fine on Ethernet to both your Asus and the BGW320. This endpoint software does minimal scanning on outbound traffic.

First try port 2 which is 10/100/1000 to see if it the handshake between the 5 Gbps port and your Asus WAN port not all devices negotiate correctly.

BTW your Asus is only has a 1 Gbps WAN port so there is no value in using port 1 on the BGW320 vs ports 2-4.

What do you get from a device behind your Asus router on the speed test sites?

Also do you have your Asus running on a different network then the AT&T BGW320?

For example AT&T Gateway at 192.168.1.254 and your Asus LAN network at 192.168.2.254?

After changing to port 2, this has made no significant difference in speed.

I'm using my phone behind the Asus router to test wireless speeds (realizing that they will not get up to 900) and then a laptop behind my SonicWall TZ350 connected to my Asus Router.

Edit: I am also running the Speed Test from inside my router, I'm not sure if that is actually doing a speed test directly from router, through gateway, out to the ISP or not.

AT&T Gateway is on 192.168.1.xxx and Asus LAN is at 192.168.50.xxx.

Dave, that is correct my SonicWall is behind my router as it is configured to connect me to my work network. I have been thinking about changing my whole routing around and to do exactly what you said and do the IP Passthrough to my SonicWall and then convert my RT-AC66U B1 (x2) to be access points/aiMesh setup. Since the gateway only supports 1 IP Passthrough.

I'm testing from my iPhone 12 Pro to the first RT-AC66U B1 in my series (router), of course, I expect to get some drop in signal to the second one I have set up downstairs. And I'm connected to 5.0 GHz broadcast network.

Connecting my laptop to my RT-AC66U B1 I am getting 400Mbps/844.30Mbps.

Connecting my laptop to the BGW320-505 I am getting 513.29Mbps/934.98Mbps.

The BGW320-505 shows that it is receiving over 950Mbps when I run a speed test on it. I have changed ports on the Gateway and used a different cable with the same results.

This is what I am getting from the Gateway

Test Completion Time Direction Throughput(Mbps) Overhead Average Latency(ms)
05/03/2021 16:13:30 downstream 996.306 70 6.534
05/03/2021 16:13:19 upstream 984.019 70 6.584

The asymmetrical download speeds for your laptop point to something like an Antivirus program performing inbound scanning but not on the outbound traffic. It is your laptop's configuration at this point.

What OS and model of laptop do you have and have you modified any of the default TCP/IP settings at that can also produce this asymmetrical download speeds.

For your iPhone 12 Pro what speeds are you seeing?

For my iPhone 12 Pro connecting to my RT-AC66U B1 router, I am seeing 434Mbps/401Mbps.

There is a chance you might be right about my laptop. We have a corporate ESET Endpoint Security that may be interfering, but it shouldn't be cutting the speed in half like that.

Running a Speed Test from the router itself still seeing the same lower speeds as before. It is odd those are coming in lower than what I'm seeing via WiFi from that router.
