dhcp server not working?

did all of the following:

  1. On a device connected to the Gateway, type 192.168.1.254 in a web browser's search bar and press enter.
  2. Sign in with the administrator credentials on the Gateway's label.
  3. Go to Home Network > Subnets & DHCP.
  4. Under "DHCP Server" there is a "DHCP Server Enable" section, with a drop down to turn it "On" or "Off".

No luck.

Start of trouble:

fiber internet went down.  Was getting 28K connectivity.  re-started gateway - no help.  Powered off, then on...gateway changed name.

then...no wi fi connectivity to ANY of the 30+ devices.

Side issue:

Computers are wi-fi BUT are displayed as ethernet connected.

Not sure exactly what you mean by gateway changed name? Did your Wi-Fi SSID change back to the default AT&T one for your Gateway and is on the label. Try to connect using the Default SSID and code.

DHCP settings is binary: On or Off. The default is ON. When you select the Pull-down the current selection will have a slightly darker grey box but just pick On and then scroll down and hit the Save button.

Why would you be mucking around there anyway.
If you’re having that much trouble, I’d probably just factory reset the gateway and start over.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave and gr8ho

Let me clarify with the name change.

default name is attks...., I changed its name via the smart home app to a more identifiable one as there are many att gateways in the neighborhood.

When I restarted the gateway its name was the same.  However, when I powered the gateway off, waited for 15 seconds and powered back on the gateway it reverted back to the default name of attks....

I've attempted to use the default password on the gateway and dhcp is ON but yet, and here is the strange part, the gateway recognizes the desktop computers as being connected via ETHERNET - they are NOT, they are wireless as they are elsewhere in the house.

Here's a question for readers.

1.How are the desktops [2], which are wireless being recognized as connected via ethernet cable?

2. Smart tv's recognize the gateway with either of the names - default and modified, but fails on password.   Used both default and modified.

3. Smart light switches were recognized before att fiber went down?, but NO wireless devices, which they are being recognized.

beginning to think the gateway has taken a trip to the trash can.

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

It sounds like you have another device in your house, connected via Ethernet to the gateway, acting as a wireless AP to your other devices.
