Gateway DNS server

The DNS server on my gateway does not seem to be running. I can look up host names on the web OK but I cannot find any hosts on my home network. This worked for a few weeks after the service was installed but stopped after several thunderstorms rolled through the area. I have done a reset and a return to factory settings reset but it doesn't help. As a temporary fix I have put the ip addresses of my hosts in a hosts file but since the gateway dhcp server will not serve static ip's, I can't be sure this will always work.

I have run ethernet from the current modem and my speeds are 900+ down and 30-40, but the internet will still not work. I went to the modem settings and it says port 1 and port 2 are down. I, as well as my roommate,

You can allocate local LAN IP Addresses in your AT&T Gateway to your devices and they will always get the same IP. The other option is just to hard code the IP you selected for you devices in your Hosts file and they again will remain Static. You can manage this on your IP Allocation page on the Gateway. It is located under the Home Network Tab.

ETA: you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to make the IP Allocations and Save them.

How were / are you attempting to find hosts on your home network?

On a linux machine I use the host command and on Windows I use nslookup. I am beginning to think some recent thunderstorms corrupted something in the software on the router. When I have time I will call AT&T support and see if I can get the router re-programmed or replaced.

So you are doing something like "nslookup devicename." (with a period)?

The router learns the names from DHCP? Have you restarted the devices since this started? Did you stop using DHCP from the router to get addresses for your devices?

I am still using dhcp. That seems to be serving up ip4 and ip6 addresses OK.
