Instead of Fiber to the BG@-320, can AT&T replace my current ONT with a higher speed ONT (to get 2.5 or 5Gbit?)

I have a home built in 2012. It was wired with Ethernet from the interior On-Q panel to the corner where the FTTH comes. This is essentially opposite sides of the home. The interior of the wall where the current 1GbE ONT lives is not ideal for me to place the BGW-320, and my home is clad with rock so it's something I don't want to do. 

I am currently using the BGW-320 with the Copper ethernet port for my 1Gbit service.

I would love it if AT&T had an option to drop in a faster ONT, so I could get 2-5Gbit over copper to my BGW-320.

Is this done? Should I approach an AT&T local service guy the next time I see one to see if it's been done?

Not currently an option. The XGS-PON external ONTs are only 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps. The 10 Gbps port is disabled by AT&T. Do you have Attic space available or a crawl space or basement where the Fiber could be routed?

Thanks for chiming in so quickly!

Routing the fiber is not impossible, but not really easy or cheap to do. 

I'm on a concrete slab.

The wall the fiber is on is a nearly 2 story room without an accessible attic. About the only thing that could be done is to run it up the wall (ugly), into my soffits and then run around the house and then pop it back out 2 stories up and run it down the wall again. Pretty ugly and not easy at all. 

The least invasive is to have them bring the fiber into the home where the current ONT is. I would have to tear open the wall and get access to the 2 ethernet lines run during construction, which are fed through a glued-in hole in the wall and rock to get to the ONT. I'd have to do this higher than the existing ONT in order to get some slack in the service lines (to avoid splicing). Then I would have a BGW-320 sitting behind a bookcase doing its job, but strapped to the back of a bookcase or something. Dunno, it's all a tradeoff.

For now, I'll live with 1Gbit service. One nice thing about 1Gbit service is that one can bypass the BGW-320 (but still have the BGW-320 provide 802.1X authentication to prove I'm a customer).

Looks like you will end up having the AT&T tech drill through the wall (with rock) and install the BGW320 in that room. Does that room have an Ethernet connection back to where your On-Q panel is located?

The fiber jumper cable from the new Fiber wall plate comes in a 12 length but many techs may offer to make a custom length to allow you to have your BGW320 installed on any wall in that room (space) and then use an available Ethernet to backhaul to your On-Q panel to feed other Ethernet devices.

Thanks. Right where today's ONT is located is a wall with a bookcase in front of it (with space behind the bookcase, so that the bookcase sits out flush with the fireplace). The challenge is that I have to open up a significant amount of sheetrock to access the CAT-5 in the wall that is stapled to the framing. and I'd have to place this BGW artificially high on the wall (because I cannot pull the ethernet back through the rock, it's glued in place). I'd have to cut the ethernet at ONT level (and move it up to get some slack without splicing). Really a pain.
