When Will AT&T Announce a New Gateway With Wi-Fi 6?

Arris BGW-210-700 was built in 2015. It's a very old model, but I'm told this is the newest model. That means AT&T has skipped releasing a new Fiber Gateway (modem/router) and we have missed out completely on 802.11ac wave 2. Now 802.11ax is here, and still there hasn't been any announcement for a new gateway model. Is AT&T waiting till 2H 2020 to work with Arris and release a new Wi-Fi 6 model which will include support for Wi-fi 6 in the forthcoming 6 GHz frequency? Waiting this long for an upgrade to the 2015 model ATT Fiber Gateway is a bit troubling.

Good Morning @philochs

Thank you so much for your feedback. What you can do at this time, is use your own equipment until the new release.

Here is how you can couple the two pieces of equipment together.

What you will use is called IP Passthrough. Please click here for instructions on how to do that:  IP Passthrough

@ATTHelp I would like to use the Aris SB 8200 (instead of the BGN 210-700). Will that be possible somehow?

That's good advice, but I'm kind of an advanced user, and I already had an old router lying around, so I tested IP Passthrough, but it was just a test, that router was slower wifi than from the gateway. I just don't want to spend $500.00 to get a new wifi 6 router if AT&T is likely to provide me with one free in a year. I definitely hope there will be a wi-fi 6 gateway which will work on the 6 GHz band, that would be a huge upgrade. I just hope your technicians at AT&T take feedback, if so, we could use a new model router, I hope they are cooking something up. I'll patiently wait, but I hope there is good news soon. If I don't hear about a free AT&T 6GHz wi-fi 6 802.11ax gateway model sometime next year, I guess I will have to just bite the bullet and buy one. I could always sell it used one day.

How would existing business fall into this,..."Based upon this history would expect a new gateway to be released 2nd half this year. Expect first units will be for new installs only till inventory increases end of year and 2020."?

Or, and follow me on this, maybe AT&T would allow us to directly connect to the fiber ONT with our own routers so we don't have to have old gateways as a middle man when it comes to our own networks.

WiFi 6 routers are only becoming available now, and suggest looking at them.  New tech is initially priced very high and that appears to be the case now.  If you're looking for something for nothing, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed.  I'd still recommend getting your own in any case.
