ATT fiber prices and Internet use not as advertised
I got a call in July from ATT indicating that my old internet service U-verse was being phased out and I would need to have ATT Fiber installed. I was told that the price would not change much. After undergoing a bad install that had a sales person show up, several techs and installers coming inside/ and outside the home repeatedly, and gateway still not working. They messed up lawn burying lines, but it was installed a month later after I had to keep calling back to inquire about why gateway was down. Fiber does not seem faster to me. It stops often. Then I got a $400 bill and I cannot understand how it went to this amount. Your billing department was not helpful. There needs to be some common ground here because this seems very predatory and deceptive treatment especially being a long time customer of ATT.

Without providing personal info, give the details of the $400 bill. Monthly fiber costs are fixed for most customers. Typically $85 for internet 1000, $65 for internet 500. Being forced to fiber there should have been no install fee of $99. Do you have Att wireless service? If yes, it’s possible the salesperson (who you did not have to allow in your home) may have bundled your accounts.

You can also call 800-288-2020. Say cancel services, confirm you are speaking to a loyalty rep and then review the bill and charges with them. This group is above first level CS and should be willing to look at your bill and investigate/explain the bill.

Thanks for reaching out. I am very frustrated. Had bundled account for years. Rates kept going up along with Direct TV. Switched wireless from ATT to another carrier. Dropped Direct TV. This after more than 30 years as customer. Unable to attach picture but statement reads below. Hard to understand. It does not use plain language. Not sure what reverse promotion and ActiveArmor is -never ordered, etc

Your bill increased by $286.69 from the previous bill.

You are signed up for the fastest speed available internet 5000 which previously was $180 but is now $255.
Call and lower your speed tier… drop to 300 will save about $200 per month and removing your phone service would save another $57
Internet 300 $60
internet 500 $70
internet 1000 $85
internet 2000 $$155
internet 5000 $255
edit if sign up for paperless billing with autopay will result in a $5 discount off any speed tier.

Thanks for your post. I never authorized that Tier 5000. ATT should allow customer to sign off instead of someone opting this for me. Then it would not be a question, there would be proof that I signed to go with 5000. I was promised slight price difference and that it would be a $1 lower. Noting was said about a tier. Why would I choose triple the price? No one explained tiers other than new service would be. I already have paperless billing. This is why I feel the plan is deceptive overall especially if it is a practice for sales people to call indicating that U-verse was being phased out and ATT Fiber new service is around $62 same price as what I paid for U-verse (Maybe Tier 300 $60). I never authorized Active armor. I clicked on the popup in Smart Home Mgr app but did not accept terms in the app and backed out. I am angry and very frustrated.

Active armor is included in your internet. No charge and cannot be cancelled for a credit. Call 800-288-2020. Ask for retentions. Tell them you did not want the 5000 plan. Let them correct your account to the speed you want. It is typical that your first bill will be higher due to prorated. Confirm with retentions what you second bill and bills going forward will be.
