Bartlett, TN shows “has coverage”...but not my part of Bartlett,TN?

I have been wanting to switch back to AT&T fiber for quite some time now. We had it years ago in a tiny little back woods town in Brighton, TN. I have checked my address in Bartlett, TN for 2 years now. Always tells me not available at my address yet. The coverage map shows Bartlett, TN has fiber. In the NextDoor app, I have Bartlett neighbors that have AT&T fiber on the other side of Bartlett.  I see on the map fiber is available in Memphis, Germantown, Collierville, Lakeland, Arlington, Covington. So, why isn’t my section of Bartlett included in this?
Elmore Park Rd @ Yale Rd is my area.

If you have neighbors (those that are physically neighbors, next to you, not the other side of the town) that have fiber then you need to call AT&T. You would request an address validation. That has them verify to see if there is a database error. If it is correct, then unfortunately no fiber at this time is the answer.

As for the why, there are many factors that could affect it but the agents are not going to know the specifics for your area. They are not part of the planned construction process as that is internal only, not shared publicly.

If fiber is not available at this time, it could be requested by a property owner/HoA President for the area. Keep in mind that this does not guarantee service, just a request and they evaluate.

How do i request fiber be added to our neighborhood for internet access? | AT&T Community Forums

The previous 4 year fiber deployment was a condition the government established when approving ATT purchase of DirecTv in the summer of 2015... to provide fiber internet to 12.5+ million addresses within 4 years (2016 to late 2019). This condition was met and exceeded by 10% to reach 14+ residential addresses within this time frame.

Not all addresses were to receive fiber, ATT determined where, who and when. In my observation a determining factor was population density... the more people (addresses) within a select area more likely to be upgraded.... thus 6000 people per square mile (dense housing) was more likely than 1500 people per square mile.

How many apartment / condo complexes, 2 to 4 family, and single family housing... aerial or buried... the smaller the lot size (city) the better than large lots which is fewer addresses per foot.

From my observations, AT&T seems to have installed where it was easy and cheap in the Memphis area and then mostly stopped. The areas where I've seen it installed are newer subdivisions that already had underground fiber and areas served by above ground utilities where they could just string fiber on poles.

If you live in a neighborhood with underground utilities without existing fiber, you can pretty much forget about getting it in the foreseeable future. It will cost thousands of dollars per subscriber to install it in those areas and take too long to recoup that cost. If you really want it, you're probably going to have to move.

I'm still waiting for Fiber in my area in Bartlett TN, I was told 3 years ago it would available to me and still nothing.. still  dealing with what Xfinity gives me.. Why is so hard to get fiber here, I live right in the heart of Bartlett, literally .5 miles from a major road..

Hi @Skelley5000, we're happy to hear about your interest in AT&T Fiber, and would like to assist you in clarifying some points.

We recommend that you go through our forum page on why service may not be available just yet.

There are numerous steps involved in servicing an area, such as obtaining permits, engineering plans, adding lines/other equipment, and so on, which can all contribute to Fiber not being available right away.

We're constantly working to expand our fiber footprint to more households every day. If you’d like to check if service is available to you now or to sign up for a notification if it does become available in the future, please visit http://sm.att.com/1bd599b9.

We'll send you a notification via your preferred method as soon as AT&T Fiber becomes available to you.

You can also fill out our address research request form. This will provide us with the information we require to check the availability of service in your area. Our teams do not know whether or not services will be available. The only thing we can do is check your address, request a check, or request to be notified.

Please feel free to reach out to us for any assistance.

AT&T will install where it is financially viable for them, where it already falls within their planed out expansion, and within the ease of local regulations that allow the work. Add to that any issues from less available techs and other shortages and delays from the pandemic (the world is not yet recovered logistically from that), and it may be a long time if ever you get fiber.

Nothing you can do to speed that up. Unless you are at the top making the decision you will just have to use some other internet service for now. Whoever told you it would be available in 3 years strung you a line. The buildout is not public knowledge and plans can change. At best they may put out an increase for a general area, but there is no guarantee for every single address until it happens.

This is the reality and has not changed since the thread started almost 3 years ago (Feb 2021).
