Fiber availability - When will AT&T bring fiber to my area?

AT&T has made fiber available to two areas in my sub-division but left two areas out.   I am attempting to see if AT&T will provide the service to the remaining two areas.   Who can I discuss this with?

Hi @tglover25,

Thank you for showing your interest in AT&T Fiber!  We do have some helpful resources which help verify your service availability.

First, this one will be to check the availability of Fiber services at your location.

If the service is available, you can order it from online.  If service is not available and if you believe it should be available in your area, you can fill out an address research request. Just fill out the form, and we'll look into it and get back to you!

We are continually expanding our fiber footprint to more households every day. We recommend signing up for fiber notifications. When fiber is available in your area, we'll let you know!

You can also review this forum about possible reasons why Fiber service is unavailable at your location.

I hope this information helps you out.

Thank you,

Thanks, David, for responding.    I attempted to use the provided links but all I get is an error message.  Here is the message:  "An error occurred while processing your request.  Reference #30.5c4f7268.1703104880.3ddc7947"

Can you address why AT&T brought fiber to two of our neighborhood sections but left the two larger sub-division areas off?   Is there someone I can speak with by phone?

Hello @tglover25, thanks for reaching out to us again. We understand where you are coming from. Let's get you the help you need. We appreciate your interest in our AT&T Fiber.

We recomend that you try copying and pasting the same link in a different browser or in incognito mode and see if that helps.

Also, please copy and paste the plain text URL into your browser’s address bar to access the website that I am going to provide below:

For availability use : https://www.att.com/internet/availability/?source=ESSZ0SSPR00T1EsEM&wtExtndSource=20231220202513_AT%26T+Community+Forums__COMMUNITY_12135626311

For Signing up for fiber notification : https://www.att.com/internet/?source=ESSZ0SSPR00T1EsEM&wtExtndSource=20231220202514_AT%26T+Community+Forums__COMMUNITY_12135626311

Furthermore, to answer your question as to why AT&T Fiber might not be available in your area are mentioned below:

  1. Distance – AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service but your home cannot.
  2. Equipment is not available – To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. As above, this could mean a neighbor may have it but service was not expanded to your home. We do not have information if or when it will be. If you have 1 Gig Fiber and want to upgrade to 5 Gig, please be patient with us we work to expand that footprint.
  3. The area is not built for AT&T Internet/ Fiber – some areas are not internet ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be since installation is factor dependent as mentioned at the top of the page. Distance and equipment can also play a factor in instances like this.
  4. Another competitor services the area - This happens from time to time but it does not mean all services are not available to you. Check out other internet options below!
  5. For some internet services, what is offered during the point of sale is an estimate. Most of the time, what is offered will be installed. To determine if service is available, our techs will perform tests beforehand and let you know of any issues.

Note: AT&T has two ways to bring traditional internet to your home, via copper lines or fiber. To get Gigabit speeds, fiber is required. In order to get internet and/or higher speeds, you must be within a certain distance of the serving equipment and the equipment must be present in the area.

Please let us know if this helps.

Budget, planning concerns as well as possible size may have exceeded capacity requiring a 2nd project that might be planned for a different time frame. Maximum sized PFP supports up to 864 addresses thus a neighborhood of 1200 addresses would require (2) separate PFPs with different builds.

From planning to activation can be 18 to 24 months with a variety of possible concerns / delays …

some questions was the subdivision developed in stages? If yes, the two sections to have fiber are newer or older areas?

Is the service aerial from pole, underground burial or mixed developments?

How long ago did the the other areas receive fiber? Months, or years?

There are two years left of the current 10 year build out to reach 30+ million addresses (50% of Uverse platforms which total 60+ million) with over 24 million already completed. Leaves 2 million more to be added over 2024-2025.
My zip code when last checked was around 40% fiber or 6000 out of 15000 leaving 9000 not upgraded and to reach the 50% means another 1500 will receive the service.

Our sub-division is not new. It was developed in 1999.   We have 649 homes in our total subdivision.   The age of the two areas AT&T provided fiber to is the same as those it did NOT provide service to.    Our Eastgate section and Crossgate section blend; however, Crossgate has fiber, so the equipment is in our area.   I can not tell how long ago fiber was added, but I suspect it was within the last 24 months.   How can we check to see if AT&T has us on a project list?

You cannot, future plans are not made public and can be changed.

Your zip code?

ATT 1st five year build out was 2016 to end 2020 reaching 15 million, the 2nd 5 year build out from 2021-2025 is also scheduled to reach 15 million. About 25% of all fiber is MDUs of apartment/ condo complexes, sometimes if a complex receives fiber the immediate area around the complex would also receive fiber. Are there MDUs next to the sections that have fiber?

You could check with local government office that handles permits, if a permit would be required for upgrade such as digging, road closure, etc.

And of course if any construction activity starts anytime within next 16 months would hopefully be a contractor hired to distribute the fiber.

As the one side is done, your service would not come from that location as the PFP is not turned live for ordering till all addresses to be supported are wired.

PFP sizes that I am aware of support max of 144, 216, 432 and 864.

May be placed on poles, ground level or underground in a vault.
