Outages in 847 area code
Trying to reach a landline 847-497-****. Says call cannot be completed. Know it's a working number. Are there outages in McHenry, IL?

My service is fine. It's the service of the number I am trying to call that is questionable. I tried calling AT&T yesterday but the wait was too long to talk to someone and then there is the hastle of being transferred multiple time to reach the right person. Will try calling again today.

Do you know what service the person you're trying to call has? Have you tried calling other number in the area?

It's a landline. He said he would never get a mobile phone but I wonder if he caved and disconnected his landline. I just talked to him three weeks ago.
I tried his brother in the same area. Same message. It would be an odd coincidence if they both disconnected their landlines. I tried a friend, too, and no problem reaching her.
Thank you for your post.

Landline with who? Looks like the trouble is either on their end or an AT&T routing problem. For the latter you'd need to tell AT&T you can't call any number in the (NPA)-nnx. Area code and exchange you can't call. Call can't be completed can't be the full message.

Reached AT&T. Turns out that it's a Comcast landline. Will try calling them.
Thank you again for your help.
