Porting a number OUT of AT&T

I am trying to get a port out number from AT&T so that I can switch my number to a different carrier. My phone is not able to receive texts so I can't call the port out number. I have tried looking in account settings both online and in the app and can't find the transfer number request. Is there another number that I can call to receive the port number over the phone, via email or mail? Or would I be able to get the number if I went to an AT&T store?

Hi there, Andrealuke. Here's what you need to know about transferring your line from AT&T Wireless Internet.

You don't need a transfer PIN since AT&T Wireless Internet is PREPAID. You will find similar details under "Do I need a Number Transfer PIN to transfer AT&T Prepaid or business numbers?" when you visit Get a PIN to transfer your wireless number.

A customer will be required to obtain a Number Transfer PIN in order to transfer their consumer, postpaid number from AT&T to another service provider.

We hope this information helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums.

I presume you mean transfer pin? You can also get it one by logging into your account.

There was no option for "transfer phone number" when I followed these instructions, either on the browser or the app.

I was using the browser on my phone... Hopefully when I try it on my computer back at home it will show up.

We're here to assist you with getting your transfer pin @Andrealuke.

With your myATT app Sign into the myAT&T app. Go to your profile and select People & Permissions. Scroll to Transfer phone number and select Request a new PIN. Your Number Transfer PIN will display on the screen.

Let us know if you were able to request your transfer pin.

I have gone to "People and Permissions" and looked everywhere on the page but there is nothing I can click on that says "Transfer Phone Number" or "Request a New PIN." Is this an error? Is there some other way for me to access this service? I have tried it in the app, on my phone's internet browser, and now in Chrome on my computer.

Hello, @Andrealuke! We can help point you in the right direction.

We recommend calling *PORT* from you're my AT&T wireless device. Follow the prompts to get your Number Transfer PIN sent to you via text.  You’ll need your account passcode to generate the Number Transfer Pin when calling *PORT.

We hope this information is helpful, and please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

That's the other wrinkle; we are using the wireless with an old-school phone that is unable to receive text messages!
