1740 Digital Answering System - System Will Not Record Messages If A Call Is Made While Someone Else Is On The Line

Hi there - I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 1740 Digital Answering System that is set up and does record messages. However, it will only take messages if the phone rings through to voicemail. The system will not take a message if I'm on the line with someone, and another person calls at the same time. When that happens, the voicemail box says it isn't set up. Is there a feature I didn't turn on in the initial set up? Has anyone else run into this issue and found a solution? Thank you!

If you're talking on the phone your answering machine can't answer, you're using the line it uses. What others are getting is a message from the phone company provided voicemail. If you have digital service access your MyAtt accounts phone features and turn it off, or if you choose set it up. If you have a traditional landline call and have it turned off.
