Model DL72350

We took the base phone off the wall while repainting. After reattaching the base we tested the system. My cell phone displays server unreachable and drops the call while the message plays but you don't hear it on the cell phone just the answering machine. What the heck did I push to create this nightmare ?

The "server unreachable" message and dropped calls likely aren't due to a button you pushed while repainting. It's more likely a connection issue caused by the phone being unplugged. Here are some reasons and solutions:

Reason 1: Loose Connection: Reattaching the base unit might have caused some wires to become loose.

Solution: Check the phone jacks and power cable for the base unit. Make sure everything is securely plugged in.
Reason 2: Network Glitch:  Sometimes unplugging and replugging can cause temporary network hiccups.

Solution: Try resetting the base unit by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. Wait a few minutes for the system to reboot fully.
Reason 3: Feature Misconfiguration:  Certain phone features might be interfering.

Solution 1: Check if your phone has a "Wi-Fi Calling" feature and try turning it off. Sometimes this can conflict with the base unit's signal.
Solution 2: Consult your phone's manual or the phone manufacturer's website to see if there are any advanced calling settings that might be causing issues. Try resetting them to defaults.
Additional Tips:

If you're still having trouble after trying these solutions, consult the manual for your specific phone model and base unit. They might have troubleshooting guides for this type of issue.
You can also contact your phone service provider's customer support for further assistance. They might be able to diagnose the problem remotely or offer additional solutions.

Did you leave the wall jack in place when you removed the phone? Did you get paint in the jack? Pictures of jack and base unit would help too. Also state what type service you have. Traditional landline? Digital phone service? Wireless home phone? ATA that plugs into an Ethernet port? Do you have just a plain corded phone you can try in the jack to eliminate or confirm jack or wiring problems? Server unreachable is no error I've ever seen from a phone carrier.
