Why is there a long delay between dialing number and hearing it ring?
I just got a new modem, Arris BGW210. People who call me tell me they sometimes hang up thinking the call is not connecting because they do not hear a ring. But I get one ring before they hang up. When I call out, I also notice a very long delay between dialing and hearing a ring. I have also hung up and redialed calling out.
Why is there such a long delay between dialing a number and hearing a ring for both incoming and out going calls?

Delay is not uncommon on VoIP and cell service. You could try rebooting your modem to see if it helps. The ringing issue could also be something a reboot will fix, make sure you don't have one of the many features turned on causing it.

Thank you. I guess not everything about the latest and greatest technology is better. I think it is hard to talk on cell phones too due to delay. Good old pots phones worked better and they worked during and after hurricanes here on the Gulfcoast when power is out for days.

Think twice before you pick up the phone and call ATT customer service. I am still not connected till now where ATT messed up my order and despite being on the call previously for hours, no resolution. They say we fixed it but absolutely bull.
I am ATT customer for years and now I am at verge to switch to another carrier JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. This is ridicules and unacceptable.
YES I am still waiting to someone to pick up the F%&King phone... 1 hour and 22 mins and going...
