Wireless Internet Device IFWA-40 Broken During Today's Outage

During this morning's outage I noticed my home phone unit's power light was off.  Usually it is green.  The only other lights on were the battery and signal strength icons.  I trying shutting off unit, plugging and unplugging.  Tried the reset button.  Customer support walked my through these steps again (when I finally got through) plus had me remove and reinstall the battery.  I was told unit is bad and it isn't under warranty.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Technical support insists it is NOT related to outage.  I do not think this is a coincidence.  The unit has worked fine for the past 2+ years and today....the date and time of a nationwide outage... it breaks?!

So I figure ATT doesn't want to pick up the tab for a replacement unit.  So I ask how much would it cost me to buy one?  Get this...they DON'T sell them anymore!!  My only options are to get another cell phone with my home number or a landline...

which they are not doing anymore!

ATT doesn't offer cellular home phones anymore.  I was grandfathered in from when they did offer them.  I'm guessing it was not profitable enough for them so they stopped the service.

And for someone like me, who is grandfathered in, not offering a replacement device is the perfect way of denying me this service.

I asked rep "Don't you have a device sitting on a shelf in an ATT warehouse somewhere?  Of course not.  What I wasn't told is that this exact device IS STILL AVAILABLE through third party retailers!  So nearly $80 later Amazon is overnighting the device.  Honestly I think ATT should reimburse me.  The device going bad at the exact time of their outage is NOT merely a coincidence.

Todays outage wouldn't have affected the power if you're sure the outlet you're using is good, than yes it's a good chance the unit or the power supply are bad. You said you had a signal on battery, so that pretty much points to the power supply. If you can't find another unit or power supply by searching the internet than there's a couple things you can do. There's other's who offer wireless home phones some are resellers of other carriers. Also, there's a new AT&T service call AT&T phone advanced which is a wireless home phone, with a back-up via the Internet, but it's not readily available. You can search the Internet for that also. You also have the option of one of the VoIP providers like Ooma or Vonage, there's others. I think I'd look on the Internet for a power supply or new unit first. Looks like Amazon has them.

Thank you for the options!  I'm due for a new cell phone and was only sticking with ATT because of the home phone feature.  I'll look into other carriers. My new, identical unit from Amazon arrives tomorrow so it'll buy me time while I do my research.

ATT really messed me up.  The problem with the box WAS due to the outage.  It was a 3rd rep named Gina Mae in Kentucky who FINALLY helped me!  Here is a recap of my experience with ATT:

I'm glad you have it working. What I don't understand is why the power light was off if there was power to the unit. In looking through the manual that's the only indication that light is for. Also, you stated in the original post the battery light was on, but according to the manual if it's on battery back up the power light flashes. The light over the battery icon is just to show the state of batteries charge.

I suspect ATT's failed update may have sent some type of signal to the box that temporarily corrupted it.

The power light should have been independent of the outage, but obviously it wasn't. Also, the SIM card must have been corrupted if it wouldn't work in the new unit.

Originally we thought the same.  However the SIM card was not corrupted because as soon as it was put back into the original device my service was restored.  All lights on the unit are now lit solid green and I can make and receive calls again.
