New business phone account; can't reach the voicemail settings for sending it to email

I've been sent in circles by every existing help document. We just switched to AT&T for internet and phone at our shop. The account page says it's a home phone. Voicemail does work, and I've set it up, but it works like it's still 1998 and I have to hold a phone to my ear to do anything. I did actually get the VM Viewer app to work on my iPhone, so I can at least check email like it's 2009 or so. The app refuses to notify me when there's a new message, so I have to check whenever I think about it.

The feature I need is to receive an email with each voicemail received. And this is where the help documents send me in circles. I think if I can force "Unified Messaging" to work, it might have the actual setting where I tell it "email VM's to this address." But I can't get UM to work -- I figured out after a while that you have to use MS Edge, but even then I have no idea what email and password it's looking for, and I can't find a page for "sign up to use Unified Messaging." Overall it seems like there are a thousand old legacy systems with a bunch of help docs that describe how to use systems that don't even exist anymore. Perhaps this is the price of saving $100/month compared to our old service...

The first thing you need to do is determine if you have a business account or a residential account. Also is this a traditional landline or digital, if traditional, yes you have to use the phone to access the voicemail and I'm not sure you can get email notifications on a traditional landline.

Looks like everything is set up as business. Business Fiber 300s, and "My Business Phone" next to that. But inside the "My Business Phone" box the button is labeled "Manage home phone," which is a bit confusing. Everything is over the fiber, so it's not twisted pair/POTS, although we do have a proper dial tone. The access point hardware is Nokia. This was installed literally yesterday, by the way.

If I click "Manage home phone," the next screen includes a link to "Voicemail View App" but that's just this help page:

https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-digital-phone/KM1195027/

And then the best chance on that page is the section titled

"Access voicemail from the AT&T website using your computer",

but nothing it tells me to do is actually there. No Overview, no My Digital Phone Card, no Manage my plan, no My Plan Card. It's like the account interface changed since that help page was last updated in late 2022.

You'd be better off posting in the business forum, since you're sure this a business account.

Man it's just crickets over there. I see questions from other people who clearly have the feature (even if it doesn't work), but I can't find the thing to save my life. It's like a dog chasing his tail trying to follow the various sets of instructions. They all lead back to themselves. I can't even tell if there's a place I can call to say "this feature needs to be turned on for our account". :-/

If you can't get the help you need through normal channels file an FCC complaint.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm having a similar problem with my work's phone. I need to reconfigure their mailboxes, record greetings, but I don't have those options online. I need to set up an advanced mailbox type and I can pull up tons of articles on how to do it, but I just don't have those options.

Might want to read the topic.

Hi spoom2,

I did. Our issues are similar. I cannot do anything with my voicemail on the ATT website. I have a business account and my online features look nothing like the ones in all the ATT help documents.

I at least got the iPhone app working. Apparently it also lets us receive SMS to the landline, which is new. Still no luck getting VM's sent by email, but honestly out outgoing message tells people to email or text, so for the moment it's not worth the effort to pursue this.

So do as suggested in this topic. You're posting in a residential forum, not business.
