Spoofed caller ID reduction: What has gone wrong?
Back in April I asked whether there was any progress being made on reducing the amount of caller ID spoofing. I was told that there was a new push in that direction that was to take place at the end of June. I continued to get spoofed calls multiple times per day until about some time in late July or August, when there was a lull for about 3 or 4 weeks during which I got almost no spoofed scam calls! I thought something useful had finally been accomplished, and was rejoicing, when the spoofed calls started up again with a vengeance. Now I am getting 3 or so scam calls a day with spoofed caller ID again, all with similar format and content, from people with south Asian accents; although now there is a subset in which the caller is a robot with a silver-tongued TV announcer voice and an impeccable American accent. So what has gone wrong? Has AT&T just given up?
