Trying to clear "new voicemail" message from AT&T EL 52219 phone.
I bought a cordless ATT phone answering system yesterday. The model number EL 52219. Right after installation/setup it started displaying "new voicemail" on the base and handsets, but there are no new messages recorded. Number of messages on the base shows 0. Per the Quick Start Guide, I found out how to "Clr voicemail." I did that, but minutes later the message reappeared, and when I use my phone, I get the "ding ding ding" tone on the phone, acting like there is a message still in there. This does not make any sense. I'm only using the answering service through m phone - not through my service provider. How to I get rid of this? It's driving me crazy!!!! Help please. Thanks.

While you may not currently be using it, does your Telephone service provider offer voice mail?
Is it possible that there's a voice mail stored in there?
It certainly sounds like your provider is sending a message to your phone to turn the light on.

Even if I turn the "voicemail" on, I still can't get rid of the "new voicemail" message - nor the "do do do" tone when I pick up my phone (obviously, that's there b/c I haven't listed to the voicemail message yet). My old phone had a "one-digit" code that I could use to retrieve voicemail messages. That "one-digit" code doesn't work with this new phone. I have no clue where to go from here.
I'm just wondering if I take the battery out and try to reset my phone if this will help (but I'm afraid to do this in case it does something bad to my phone).
Any suggestions?

The stutter dial tone comes from your provider and so does the voicemail light. Has nothing to do with the built in answering machine on the phone system. Access your phone company provided voicemail and delete all messages, if you don't want to use the phone company voicemail have them turn it off if you can't do it yourself.

No need to do anything further. I figured it out and it's fine now. Thanks for all of the help, though!!!! Nice to know people actually do respond to these types of forums.
