brand new AT&T DL72210 answering machine hangs up after playing recorded greeting
Hello,
I recently purchased an AT&T DL72210 for my landline and am trying to set up the answering machine. When a call comes in the phone rings the specified number of times, then the answering machine answers the call and plays the pre-recorded greeting. However once the greeting is done playing, the answering machine hangs up and doesn't allow any message to be recorded. If anyone can help I would be very grateful, thank you.

If smart call blocker is off it sounds like you may have a defective base unit. There's a remote possibility that your phone company provided VM is answering at the same time as the phone system answering machine, which would be pretty rare. Have you called it to see if it's an actual hang up? If it is it's defective.

Hi, yes I've called it myself to see what was going on. I hear the pre-recorded greeting and then as I begin talking to see what the answering machine hears, no sound gets through and then I hear a dial tone.
I'll check smart call blocker as well.
I don't believe phone company provided VM is a thing on this account, the old phone worked just fine and this was a direct replacement but I'll doublecheck.
