Callers to landline get bogus busy signal

We have 4 wireless handsets and a base station.  Sometimes the handset screen says "line in use". When called from my cell phone I get 4 or 5 busy signal pulses, the slight buzzing. Is caused by AT&T equipment or mine? We got this system  a few months ago so it's unlikely to  be the problem.

Our service is thru underground copper wire bundles in a sheath. Loss of service in frequent. We have on of the AT&T connector boxes in our back yard and the techs are frequently knocking on our door due to neighbor's loss of service.

Our internet service is thru cable so I have the little adapter for the base station.

Any ideas?

You have a cordless phone system, not wireless. Wireless is cell service. The base unit puts out the same signal to all handsets. What do you mean by you have cable internet and a little adapter for your base station? Is your base station plugged into the cable modem?

To address the issue of callers receiving a false busy signal when dialing a landline, follow these steps:

Troubleshooting the Phone Line
   - Check if there are any physical damages to the phone line, such as cuts or kinks. Replace damaged cords or cables if necessary.
   - Ensure that all connections, including wall jacks and phone cables, are properly secured.

Check for Dial Tone
   - Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. If there's no dial tone, the issue might be with the line itself. Contact your service provider to investigate and resolve the issue.

Test with Different Phones
   - If possible, try using a different landline phone to determine if the issue is specific to the phone itself. If the problem persists, it's likely a line issue.

Check for Call Diversion or Forwarding
   - Make sure there are no call diversion or forwarding settings active on the landline that might redirect calls elsewhere.

Check for Third-Party Equipment
   - If you're using any call-blocking devices, fax machines, or other equipment, ensure they're not causing the issue. Temporarily disconnect them to see if the problem persists.

Test Call from Different Numbers
   - Have callers use different phones and numbers to call the landline. This will help identify if the issue is isolated to specific callers or if it's widespread.

Report the Issue to Service Provider
   - If the issue persists, contact your landline service provider to report the problem. They can perform line tests and identify potential issues on their end.

Restart Landline Equipment
   - Sometimes, a simple restart of your landline equipment (phones, modems, routers) can resolve connectivity issues. Unplug them from the power source, wait for a few seconds, and then plug them back in.

Temporary Line Disruption
   - Occasionally, landlines may experience temporary disruptions due to maintenance or issues in the local network. Wait for some time and then test the line again.

Attempting to fix a similar issue with el53303 model. The issue is, after calling and getting the busy tone, the other phone won't receive a call. None of the troubleshooting would work. I attempted everything from unplugging everything to even taking out the battery pack in each of the individual handsets. I have 3, and the main works great, but the other two do on.

Start your own topic with better explanation. You have 3 what and what do you mean by main?
