how to get a credit for landline out of service

My landline was completely out for a week (no incoming but outgoing for weeks before the total shutdown).  What must I do to get a credit for the down time?

Call and ask for it, assuming you reported it out of service.

@tb15

If this was a listed outage, or you contacted AT&T and reported it which resulted in sending a tech out or discovering the outage, then you call AT&T once it is fixed. That way they can issue a Time Without Service credit for the correct amount of days. However if there was no listed outage and you didn't report it then there is nothing for them to credit.

Yes, I reported it and they came and "fixed" it a week later.  But the fix didn't hold - it never does, this happens every month.  Lines in alley are crap. I'm giving up with AT&T.
