New Fiber with old Land line

My mother recently had another company's fiber optic installed for Internet service. In doing so, they disconnected her U-verse dsl box, thereby taking out her land line she's had for 40+ years. They said something about we would

need to get another modem from ATT (to use the land line phone) and maybe a filter so that it wouldn't interfere with their equipment.

Has anyone heard of this? Sorry for the vagueness, but I was not there and my mom is 81 yrs old and did not really understand what they

were telling her.

Thank you

DD

Well, that would mean she'd be paying for two internet services to get AT&T digital service back. The Internet service she has should have phone service and be able to port her AT&T number to the new service, Other than that she could get a VoIP service and port her number to it.

They idea was to just pay for the ATT land line and drop the old DSL (for Internet) Which was extremely slow on

the ancient copper lines in our rural area.

I have thought of porting her old # to the new fiber, I need to call them, because according to their website they

do NOT offer the phone option in our area, but I think that might be a mistake or outdated info.

They just installed all of the fiber infrastructure in our neighborhood, so this is all brand new.

Thanks for your reply...I'm still trying to figure it all out.

Traditional landlines are being phased out. You can call to see if that's an option and even if it is it may just be temporary.

Thanks so much. I will look into that.
