No audible ring on landline

Coincidence that this began after we received notification that AT&T made some changes due to the hack?

We only use our landline phones now to buzz people in from the condo entrance. The phones actually work fine for both incoming and outgoing calls. There is just no audible ring.

Being an AT&T retiree after 43 years working in Network Services, I very much know how to check for a defective instrument. All have been unplugged and checked one by one, along with all jacks. It’s like there is no ring voltage.

Being in a condo we have no accessible Network Interface Device (NID). That would be considered as being in the IT, which I may have to look into if the BP is correctly labeled.

The phones do audibly ring when I turn the volume up and down, and they ring when plugged in at a neighbor’s unit.

Reaching a human there is harder these days than reaching the summit of Mt Everest, so thought I would see if anyone here has any suggestions. Thanks

You say you "buzz" people in, so there must be some kind of control box. Is there normal dial tone and can you call out to a number outside the condo? If no than you'll need to get someone out who can check the door control box.  I know you said it works fine for both incoming and outgoing calls, but you don't say if the calls go over the phone companies network. This is a customer based forum, you'll need to call if you need a tech out or to report a problem.

I understand what it is. I stated I worked for 43 years in Network Services, both as craft and as a manager who ran these departments over multiple states. There is DT. It all works fine. I called my daughter in another town, and my son in another state. They can call me, and as long as I know they are calling me in a test type situation, I can answer them. The only issue is NO AUDIBLE RING. This building doesn’t have its own communication system, and the door buzzer has worked fine over this line for 25 years.

Before I call the mess into what now attempts yo be AT&T repair, I thought I would ask to see if anyone has recently encountered this problem. I see they have in the past, but I never did see anyone get a resolution response.  All I am doing is asking. I don’t think it has anything at all to do with the door system, and it’s not the instruments, which ring fine in the unit next door. It has to be my actual line.

Didn't mean to set you off. If you know full well how things work than you know full well where the ringing current comes from so that's who'll need to fix it, if it's not being received.

Yes, I do know, but I have been unable to even put in a trouble case. It’s that difficult these days. I thought perhaps others may have had this issue and my thoughts about its cause were possibly wrong.  I’m sorry I even asked a question on your forum. You are being intentionally rude and I will figure out how to delete my account.
