Utterly impossible to find anyone at ATT to setup a land line phone or discuss delays
I have so far spent > 5 hours calling various ATT Phone #s (on their pages and via internal people trying to reroute me) just to get a land line phone for a new apartment for my dad. I thought I had a break through Wednesday when someone actually took an order (I have the conf #) for the new service. The service was promised to be set up yesterday. No service yet. There isn't a single # that ATT makes available that can get you to the right group. Their phone triage system just routes you to their VOIP or cell or uVerse people regardless what you tell it. Is there anyone that has an actual phone # to the actual right team that can properly set up a land line (new service) and whom I can contact for if/when it's not set up right? This is the most screwed-up situation I've ever seen. Since AT&T can't seem to figure itself out, perhaps the forums know better.

Are you sure that a standard phone is available at the new location?
ATT is phasing out standard landlines in favor or Digital phone service (aka VOIP).

Let's meet in a DM for further assistance, You'll find a chat icon next to a bell icon in the upper right corner of this page. Our next message will appear there.
We look forward to chatting with you soon.

Yes, All the companies providing internet service are trying to require customers to move to VOIP, however in many areas (such as my dad's apartment) they do not run internet services to the room directly. This is an assisted living. They have building-wide wifi and then cable TV service to the rooms (via xFinity). There is no Internet over which to run a VOIP and if there were it would only be through the xFinity (who services the building for Internet).
The serious struggles with getting anywhere on this is that "all" of the numbers listed for people to contact AT&T route to the uVerse/mobile service and they have no idea how to forward to the POTS people. The phone tree utterly fails to recognize a request to get "new land line service". It's not in its vocabulary.
That's also all amongst having the AT&T system hang up on me at least 6 times (after politely saying "thank you").
Finally, just now I got hold of someone that got me to a person with Ameritech (who does the POTS service) who verified that the service to the new location should be working, but he can tell it's not. He was chatting with tech support fo fix and I was promised a fix by 12/26.

Well, it's a step in the right direction.
I can now call the phone at my dad's new apartment, but it's impossible to dial out. I don't I'm trying to dial a my personal phone (same area code) without the area code and that doesn't work. I try to dial with a 1 then the area code and then my personal phone and i get an error message before I can finish I get an error message that I'm trying to use an invalid carrier code or similar. I suspect this means that Ameritech hasn't configured the number to connect with AT&T (but what do I know).
Given the issues so far I expecting a very difficult time reaching anyone to fix this issue. TBD.
