Log in for Directv and ATT Interfere With Each Other

I had ATT, no problems. I got Direct TV and each time I log into one of the accounts, I have to reset the password for the other account. It's awful!!! Over and over. I spent 1.5 hours on Thursday, talking with Directv first, and then ATT. Direct TV had me change my email log in to avoid problems. I supplied a new email addy for the Direct TV account. Then the ATT account needed reset, of course. They had me call ATT. I called ATT next. After  a few resets, ATT provided me with a non-email user ID and said I could access both accounts with the same ID and password. I logged into both accounts with the same info. Great!! It worked! 2 days later, I see that my Directv app on my ipad has kicked me out. The log in details will not work. I call Directv and they have me reset my passord....again....ugh.....asking me insulting questions like "are you certain that is the correct password?" The password is Directvsucks2. It's easy. Next reset it's Directvsucks3, next reset is Directvsucks4. Yes, I am sure of the password and I am writing it down to keep track. This problem is still not resolved. Every time I reset the Directv password, I must reset the ATT password. It's not that great of a TV package to have to live with this crap. ATT cannot resolve and neither can Directv. I cannot be the only customer with this problem?

What a terrible situation to be in. Having to reset your accounts’ passwords every time you want to use one of our apps would quickly get old; and it’s not conducive to the “set and forget” experience we want you to have with our services! I can help you get this corrected in no time, hopefully before the next time you need to use your logins!

 

The next step would be to link your DirecTV and AT&T’s account under on login. This will ensure only one login is needed to access both services. After this is done, we might need to uninstall and reinstall the apps on your device in order to clear the cache, since it might interfere with your ability to login. If this doesn’t work, we can look into de-linking them completely, so bot accounts operate as completely separate services.

And just had to reset my email password again to receive the one time code sign up for this forum!!  So now DirecTV broken again. :(

@MotoDoug Directv right now is having an issue with signing in for some customers. I know this first hand as I am one of those customers that have been having trouble just logging in to my account. If you are trying to use the same email and password for both accounts it might be better to try to use 2 different email addresses, as sometimes there can be issues when using the same login info.

Thanks, we do use 2 email addresses.  Mine for regular ATT and my wife's for DirecTV.  But I think the problem may be because my account is linked to DirecTV.  Tried to unlink it to confirm but couldn't find a way.

@MotoDoug I have never done this but supposedly this is how to unlink AT&T and your Directv account according to AT&T.  Go to your myAT&T Profile. Sign in, if asked. Scroll to My Linked Accounts. Choose to Remove this account for the account you want to unlink.  Hopefully, this will help you.

If Tiger593 's suggestion doesn't help, we recommend reaching out to DirecTV to have them remove your email address from the account and replace it with a different one. You can visit the DirecTV Community Forums or call them directly at 877-510-1128.

@Aminah I read in another thread on this that unlinking the accounts doesn't help.  And I already have it under a different email address, my wife's.  But this is also an ATT email address, so maybe need to use a Gmail one or something so ATT stays out of it?

How you guys screwed this up so bad is beyond me but lots of people are having the issue, with many ready to just drop both ATT and DirecTV.

How long does it take to resolve a known problem.  I have had to do this multiple times and it continues to be a horrible customer experience.  I am a lifelong AT&T customer and worked for the company for 23 years retiring in 2020.  As much as it hurts me to say this is AT&T tends to focus on things other than what produces optimized customer service.  I could see if this took some time when AT&T acquired DTV but that's been more than a minute.  There needs to be a CIO and Cyber solution.  I was also a CDO (Chief Data Officer) for the Air Force Reserve during my career and I have to say AT&T has no excuse for not fixing this definitively; not.... try this, try that, reset, change your email, and then rinse and repeat and maybe it will work.  Time to get it together AT&T.
