Victim of AT&T Security Breach of 73 Million that has Impacted Facebook Users

Hi,

With AT&T's security breach, our details have been posted on places like the dark web. This has been used in providing info to allow perpertrators to access other accounts. In my case, my Facebook account of 20 years, has been hacked, activity added that has led to the suspension of my account. I am not the only one affected by this. Trying to use Facebook's appeal process is close to impossible, with no one responding or knowing if the case can be looked into. My only option is to use the [email scrubbed]. Their online appeal process they provide is after your Facebook login - I can't even login.

AT&T needs to help here - by reaching out to Facebook and requesting special help for any users impacted by this breach and helping them get their cases appealed.

Who can we contact to get help here for a group that has become victims of this breach at a very personal level of our online spaces we have used to stay connected with friends and families over many years.

AT&T offers forward protection with Identity Lock, but nothing to help with losing impartant account like our Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Begging for help!

Not sure how this impacted your Facebook login, unless you used the same credentials to log into FB that you were using with AT&T, but in any case, they aren’t going to reach out to FB or anyone else.  Or, since the actual breach apparently happened years ago, you can tie it to the AT&T breach, as opposed to some other breach or hack.  All AT&T will do in this forum is post a generic message telling you to contact them using the contact us methods at the link at the bottom of the page.  You can contact them, but I’m betting they aren’t going to do anything other than tell you that you have to deal with FB yourself.

These were the same credentials - sad to say.

@abe21lincoln The AT&T breach probably has nothing to do with Facebook users getting hacked, unless you happened to use the same credentials for AT&T that you used for Facebook, which has always been discouraged. ALWAYS use different login credentials for any of your web presence and business accounts. Once your data is on the dark web there is really nothing that can be done. Facebook etc have had many data breaches/hacks in the past. Even Experian had a major data breach a few years ago. Nobody is immune to hacking if the hackers want in bad enough. It's very easy now for other companies to blame the AT&T data breach (from 2019) to blame leaks on their platforms.

The only thing AT&T can do, if you are a current customer, if offer the Experian IdentityLock for one year. But that will only "protect" you for a year. Your data is already out there, in one form or another, as is most people who use the internet. And, to drive the point home, if you use the same username/password for your accounts, that makes it so much easier to build a "packet" on you that can be sold to anyone on the dark web if they think it's worth it. Different login creds with long, multi-character passwords (changed about every 6 months) and 2FA is the best thing you can do to keep yourself and your data safe.

Yes - this has been a hard lesson to learn.

I don't think the data breach has anything to do with your issue. Even if passwords were in the data breach, they're hashed, so the scammer wouldn't be able to use them.
