2 Year Contract?

I went into at&t the other day to go get an iphone 6 64 gb with a 2 year contract for $200 (not including tax).  When i was talking to the employee, he told me that the contract has changed and that i would need to pay the $200 for the contract and the fee to totally pay it off totaling at about $750.  He was also talking about a $49 activation fee on top of that, which would be about $800. This didnt make sense to me if I could just buy an unlocked phone for less.  I am just wondering if maybe there was a communication error between us. Can someone please explain to me how the "new" 2 year contract works.

Not entirely correct.  The cost of an iPhone 6, 64 gb (last years model) is $650.  The 6S is $750

2 year contracts are being phased out.  The only way to upgrade with a 2 year contract is online and have the phone shipped to you.  Do not try any other option like store pick up, it will not be allowed.

The upgrade fee is $45 for contracts.  If you are on Mobile Share Value plan, you will lose any out of contract discount and you bill will go up.

As of March 2016 no more 2 year contracts will be allowed and Next or full price will be the only option.

T-mobile went this way 3 years ago, Verizon dropped contracts in August.

@lizdance40 So what you are saying is it will be $245 (not including tax) for an iphone 6 64 gb on a 2 year contract which needs to be bought online, correct?  Also, i was looking at the price and it said $195 and the activation fee is waved.  does that mean i do not have to pay the $45 for activation?

Yes.

If you are in the Mobile Share Value plan you will get a pop up before you finish the order warning you of the loss of discount.

If you are in an older plan, you don't get the discount and will not get a pop up.

You must have the phone shipped to you.
