AT&T Charging Me For A Phone I Gave To USPS

Someone, please help! In September I traded in my phone for a new one. I followed the directions, packed the phone with the prepaid label and brought it to USPS. I've been through the USPS customer service process, they opened a case and determined that a 3rd party carrier picked up the phone and they have nothing more to do with it. AT&T is now threatening to cut off my service if I do not pay for the phone that I sent back.

I have a receipt for the shipment with the tracking number. I also have a letter with USPS letterhead stating that the package has been picked up by the 3rd party carrier and is not in their possession. HOW IS THIS MY RESPONSIBILITY?! AT&T customer service has not been helpful and is telling me I have to pay $550. How unethical is this?

Someone, anyone, please help.

I feel your pain. We are having a similar issue. We also have the proof that our phone was returned, and we also did what AT&T said, and that was go back to the reseller, who found the problem and corrected it while on the phone with AT&T's loyalty department. But the charges are still on our bill. We're going to make one last effort today to get our bill corrected.

If you can't get AT&T to accept your proof, I would recommend opening a case with the Better Business Bureau to see if they can get the issue resolved. Be sure to scan in your proof and upload it with the complaint and explain in detail the steps you have taken.
