AT&T screwed us over....

Ok. So this is kinda a long story, but this is the short version: my husband and I signed up for service April 9, 2014. We were offered the next plan and the customer service lady helped us figure out that (according to what she told us) it would be cheaper for us to buy our phones outright instead of making monthly payments. So when she asked "are we good to go?"I asked asked her "so our monthly bill will be $80 for our service and $10 for insurance on my phone, correct?". And she said yes.

So... We signed on the dotted line.

About 3 weeks later, we got our bill. It was out of control high. Like $400! So we called customer service and they brought it down to about $115. We paid it, expecting to have a $90 bill the next month, but It never went down to what they said. We are each paying $40.00 on top of our service package so that we can use the phones WE ALREADY BOUGHT!!!!!! Our monthly bill is $137.68.

When I brought this up to them after receiving my first bill, they basically said tough luck, you only had 14 days to cancel. But we didn't even get out bill until after the 14 days were up.

Now we can't afford the money bill and our only way to cancel is to pay the termination fees. And if we cant pay the monthly bill, how are we supposed to afford the ETF?!? I am in college and so we can't afford this much, which is why we went with AT&T -- cause they guaranteed us $80/mo.

I'm sharing my story cause I have a lot of friends who AT&T screwed too by not being upfront and honest...

DON'T SIGN ON WITH ATT!!!!!

If you paid full price ($400-$700) for the phones, each line fee should be $25 (6GB plan or lower) or $15 (10GB plan or higher).  If you paid the subsidized price for the phones (anywhere from free up to around $200), each line fee is $40.  This will be in addition to the base plan with x-amount of GB of data.  Based on your $137/mo bill, I would say you are currently on the 2GB plan.  If you did the NEXT plan, you did buy the phones outright, but are spreading the payments over ~18 months, which is in addition to your normal monthly bill.  Look at your receipt, look at your contract. Go back to the ATT store (Never go there by the way, you get overcharged) and make them explain exactly what your being billed for and why. If your bill is wrong, make THEM call ATT (They talk to different folks than you can get through to), and make it right. Take names, get reference numbers, make the store document what they did on your copy of the contract.

Yeah. Pull out the paperwork and see which plan you are on. It certainly isn't the Next program.
It seems like a regular 2 year contract with a subsidized phone.

How much did you pay for the phones? (most phones are $350-$800)
and which phones did you get? (basic phones with little or no data are cheaper to buy and have cheaper plans)

With subsidized phones, the monthly cost is $40 per month plus insurance / Per phone, plus a pooled data plan. Plus taxes and fees.
If this is the case, you did not pay up front for your phone, you essentially put a deposit on the phone.

I was also lied to by AT&T rep. Quoted $135.00 a month for 3 lines. Including hotspot etc. These lying AT&T reps do anything to get a sale. The reality. 183 a month. If you want the contract honored. Customer loyalty in the Philipines. Money stolen? Yes? Fake contract? Yes. Go to a local AT&T store back in the Philipines. More lies. AT&T is a circle of lies

Under new management is a common sign at AT&T stores. I now know why.
