AT&T took my payment out twice

I did an online payment as I always do, and it has been taken out of my account twice.  My bank says it will take 10 days to dispute and to call AT&T, who tells me there it will take 15 days for them to drop the charge.  I am furious and ready to cancel my account, even though I have been with AT&T for over 10 years.  They know the double payment is there but refuse to remove it? Absolutely unacceptable.  Has anyone else had this happen?

AT&T has no mechanism other than writing a check to return an overpayment. Which maybe your fault, or your bank's fault, or it might be AT&t's fault but they only sent one bill so I can't imagine how they could send one bill and somehow be responsible for it getting paid twice.

If you request a return of an overpayment it can take up to six to eight weeks to return the overpayment by check. Somewhere in that 6 to 8 weeks the money will not be in your AT&T account to pay for service, AT&T won't have it, and you won't have it.

Our advice on accidental double payments is to leave them be and you will not have to pay next month.

By the way if you ever dispute a payment with AT&T directly with your bank you will never be allowed to use that method of payment ever again.

I have been on auto payments for years, not once was there ever a mistake. Not early, not late, not doubled, not short, no late payments, no missed payments, no mistakes ever, not in more than a decade.

Well not all of us have an extra $300 for AT&T to hold onto until next billing cycle.  I am glad that it has never happened to you but I assure you that I made an electronic payment and they ran it twice.

I paid off my Apple I phone to an AT&T third party store then when I saw it in my bank account is AT&T withdrawn twice on the same day at about 3pm and 6 pm.  After a few days, the bank refunded the money but then a month later AT&T tries to chargeback or get the money again.  This is a total nightmare to me since I have to dispute again for the second time.

I don't know where the glitch is coming from - one payment made to the store and then two withdrawals showing in my bank account same day at two different times by AT&T

This got to be resolved.  Whose fault is it here?
