Autopay and Paperless Discount
I've got four lines on my wireless account. I'll be deleting one line because the user passed away. That leaves three lines. Currently, I do not have autopay, and I log on each month to manually pay my bill with my credit card. (I've always wanted to review my bill before it gets paid. One month, there was a $140 charge for 60 international calls, to the same number, that I did not make. They were all 'made' at the same time on the same day, which is impossible. I was able to get it cleared up.)
But, I now see that I can get a $10 discount per line if I do autopay and charge to my debit card or bank account, using ACH. That would be a total $30 discount per month for my three lines. Do I understand this correctly?
I am a little leery about handing out my debit card number or bank account number. How safe is this?

How safe is it? It’s safe until someone hacks into AT&T and steals the info.

If wanting a discount, but feel safer using a credit card… signup for paperless billing with credit card to receive a $5 discount per line or $15 per month, plus the reduction from canceling one line.

Back the truck up on that one. Nothing to do with message count. Simply with the recent hack discussions regarding AT&T directly and more recently an associated company, it was a realistic (though perhaps tongue-in-cheek) perspective. Many have chose to forego such discounts as the safety of their info is more important.

Realistic, yes (duh), but so obvious it need not be mentioned. Tongue-in-cheek is not helpful. Why bother? Perhaps to be 'cute'?

Relax. If you don't mind losing the $5 per line credit then continue with your credit card. To keep the $10 per line credit ($5 for autopay and $5 for debit/ACH) you'll need to keep paperless billing and pay with a debit card or ACH. Comcast does the same thing and other providers and carriers are headed in that direction as well. Nobody can tell you for sure how safe anything is now-a-days given the sophistication of hackers. All you can do is protect yourself as best as you can. We have Autopay but still check the bill every single month to make sure there aren't any surprise charges there.

You asked how safe it is, so that would suggest it wasn't that obvious. The answers are given by people who are not held to a company's customer support standards, so can reply a bit more human. Either way it was intended to be helpful, even if it wasn't in the best form for you personally.
Myself I have enjoyed autopay discount with credit card in the past. But when it comes to directly from my bank account (EFT or other name for electronic check, debit card, etc.) I am much more restrictive. In a sense, credit card is a barrier to the bank account by separate bucket of 'funds' and options to dispute while I still have access to my money (bank itself).

Have you recently changed plans? I seem to recall you were on an older mobile share plan. Mobile share plans do not have an auto pay and paperless billing discount built into the structure of their plan. Unless you have changed to one of the newer plans, premium, extra, starter, value plus, or the four gig plan you do not have an auto pay and paperless billing discount .
if you have remained on your old mobile share plan, go ahead and keep paying with your credit card. Whether or not you pay manually every month is entirely up to you

Found it…this was nearly a year ago…

similar discussion about the auto pay and paperless billing discount, which is not offered on the mobile share advantage plan that you had at that time.

You asked how safe it is. What answer were you expecting? Someone to tell you it’s completely safe, after AT&T recently admitted a hack that exposed the personal info of millions? Or should you rather someone tell you it’s not safe at all and don’t bother doing it?
