Can't type message when texting. App closes immediately

I can receive texts. I can't respond or type new. When I hit box to type the app closes on its own. I have shut down the phone several times for 10 minutes. I have taken the Sim card out and put back in. I have forced close app. I have changed settings that some suggested. None of these work. S24. New within last 6 weeks.
