Fraudulent charges on my card - ATT let thieves take our money without a problem

Yesterday I found out someone charged my Bluebird Card 4 times and attempted a fifth transaction but by that time my account was too low. $120, $50 one day , then $120 and $50 again. I'm waiting to see what will come out of this, but aside from me and my family being out of my bill money and having to wait for Bluebird to post the money to my account and having to wait for a new card, ***** my husband actually suspected that I had a boyfriend, so I am happy I found this forum and see I'm not the only one.

By the way, for those who think it happens to people who are careless with their info: my card was in a lock box! I bare use it!

I'm very upset! Since this is obviously something that has been happening, why is AT&T not tightening up on security? It's going to cost me a disconnection, having to be without electricity for a few days and a nice reconnect fee- no one cares!

@Robbedbyhackers, what do you expect AT&T to do?

Not sure why you are upset with ATT. Credit/debit card theft happens all the time, it’s not ATT’s fault. Ultimately, ATT is going to be cheated out of whatever was charged.

This is the kind of title I see from yahoo news.  🙄.  At best, has nothing to do with the body of the writing.  At worst, totally misleading.

Since I have not gotten a penny back, the only ones cheated out of money are me and my family. You'll feel different once you become a victim- I never thought it would happen to me!

Well, somehow it seems they don't require enough verification when taking credit/debit card payments, obviously letting thieves steal from innocent people. Had this not happened to me, I probably would be asking this as well, but fact is not a soul had access to my account information, so through no fault of mine, someone was able to steal from my account, which had me do an internet search that lead me here, letting me know that there are plenty of other victims! AT&T will have to reimburse us and tighten their security and investigate. Or do you think we should just cut the losses ( until maybe one day you find yourself a victim of theft like we did)?

If your card was compromised, you should call AmEx. I'm not sure what protections they offer with the Bluebird accounts, but that should be your contact.

Of course I contacted my financial institution who is now making me wait 45
days for their decision on whether I get my money back or not. Pretty
unfair, isn't it? This could happen to anyone!

Yes, it is.

It has nothing to do with AT&T, though.

AT&T DATA Way2Go has nothing to do with AT&T?
Based on my rest, those fraudulent charges have been a know issue since at
least 2016. One would think they would recognize back to back charges and
would require more secure verification?
Before this happened to us, I would probably be sceptical about people's
stories and would probably also reply like you, but I just learned that
this can happen to anyone! So- if it was you, if your money was stolen by
making several charges for AT&T products and then you would read that there
are many victims of the same credit card fraud... After contacting your
financial institution- what would you do? Would you just say " AT& T has
nothing to with this" and cut your losses? I'm sorry, but I don't think so!

Credit card fraud is not AT&T's fault.

I'm not skeptical about your story.

Maybe your financial institution should have better controls in place? When I made two purchases from the same retailer on line in quick succession this week, Capital One emailed me within minutes to make sure I wasn't double charged.

I understand your frustration, but it's misdirected.
