Why can't Payment Confirmation texts be turned off?

I have read in past threads, as well as confirming with an online Chat representative this morning, that Payment Confirmation texts with AT&T cannot be turned off. This month it came in at 6:30am, waking me up. Last month it came in at 3:30am, waking me up.

There is NO NEED to text me when my auto-pay completes. An email is fine. I was told to turn on Do Not Disturb on my phone, but I don't want to - if there's an emergency I want to know. Knowing that my cell phone bill was paid is NOT an emergency. Others have been told it's an FCC requirement - it is not. AT&T is simply waking up their customers with pointless texts. Even a setting that says "Don't text me between the hours of X and X" would solve this issue and meet your (supposed) FCC requirements, if they exist (they do not). This has got to stop.

I've been a customer for 15 years, but I am willing to leave AT&T over this.

You should be able to set a rule on the phone that mutes notifications from that exact short code your confirmation is received from. It may be in the "Do Not Disturb" settings, but you don't have to turn off your entire phone to do so.

Perhaps set sleep hours that mutes or reduces volume for notifications only while calls still go through as normal. Assuming you are not waiting on a text in an emergency.

Yes, thank you for that. I had just done what you suggested - blocked that particular short code. If it works and I don't get woken up next month, I may be okay. However, in the past half hour I've looked at Verizon's plans, and it looks like I can save $10 a month and have the same features I have with AT&T. I may even not last a month!

Another possible solution would be to set a custom alert sound for the sender's short code, and that custom sound be nothing or something very quiet.

Hey @TimPicks! We hear you and would like to help you.

We understand how receiving payment confirmation texts can be bothersome. To turn them off, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your myAT&T account.
  2. Click on the myAT&T tab and select your wireless account.
  3. Scroll down to the Billing Notifications section.
  4. Choose whether to opt in or out of each type of billing notification (text messages or emails).
  5. Save your changes.

This way, you won’t receive those extra payment confirmations anymore! If you ever encounter suspicious emails related to your AT&T account, remember not to click on any links—especially if they claim to verify your account or confirm payments. Stay safe

I hope this information helps.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank you, but that's simply not an option. Not only is there not an option to turn off Payment Confirmation texts, but your Chat team today (Miguel) confirmed they cannot be disabled. Past threads on this forum have also said the same thing. Finally, I already have ALL text message settings set to off, and have for as long as I can remember.

Please confirm your answer before posting it, because it seems you're in the wrong.
