Internet limit exceeds when no one is using the internet

My husband and I are both at work and away from home. No one is using the internet, and we keep devices off to prevent updates when we aren't there. Yet I got an email at 10:46 that we had used 75% of internet and at 10:47 I got one that said we exceeded it. How exactly did we use 20G in one minute

Internet 75 vs Internet 100

Currently on Internet 75 in North Carolina but bumping up on the 1.5 TB ceiling at $65/mth. Looks like there is another plan, Internet 100 for $55/mth but with unlimited. Cant get a rep on the phone to discuss before changing. Can anyone confirm this is true....get more for less?!
