I have a preexisting line for an iPad on my account that is not in use, can I convert that line to use the upgrade to get a smartwatch? im trying to use the same line, so I don’t have to add another to my account. is it worth the hassle?

I recently traded in my Apple Watch Series 8, and it was in great condition. AT&T recycles it and says I’m getting $0 for it. Do not get screwed over like I did.
